Hawker, three others killed in Lagos building collapse •House marked for demolition – Govt

Four persons, including a 15-year-old hawker identified only as Sukurah, lost their lives on Sunday after a two-storey building under construction, collapsed in Surulere, Lagos State. Our correspondent, who visited the building on Ishaga Street, learnt that the building collapsed around 10am during  the early morning rain. PUNCH Metro  also learnt that three people were rescued and were responding to treatment at different hospitals. A friend of the 15-year-old victim, Tobi, told PUNCH Metro  that she had gone to the building to sell bread to labourers few minutes before the collapse. She said, “Sukurah and I hawk bread. The labourers called me saying they wanted to buy bread but I did not have change so I left. Sukurah entered into the building a few minutes later. It collapsed almost immediately. Woman Burns Her Son’s Face Over Soup, Stabs Him With Broken Bottle

A woman, Sakirat Attah, 25, has been arrested by the police at Elemoro Division, Lekki, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, for severely scalding her son’s face. The petty trader who resides at Abijo village in Ibeju Lekki, allegedly carried out the dastardly act while punishing little Daniel for licking their neighbour’s soup. It was gathered that Sakirat also used a broken bottle to stab Daniel in the head during her fit of anger and he sustained a deep cut in the head. A police source said that the victim’s neighbours rescued him from the mother and quickly rushed him to a nearby hospital due to excessive loss of blood. The trouble started for the little boy when their co-tenant allegedly caught him licking their pot of soup and reported him to his mother. The mother of the child was said to have dragged her son inside her room and locked the door. She allegedly lit her stove and put an iron spoon on it to get hot and used it to burn her son’s face and hands as punishment.

                                                                                   2013 Ramadan turned sour for the Adigun family of Abiola Central community, Moniya, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, as one of the youths in the family, Mutiu Tiamiyu, inflicted injury on the head of the family, Pa Nasiry Adigun, which led to his death on Tuesday night. According to reports, Pa Adigun, who was visually impaired, was prevailed upon by his family members to observe Tarawhi prayer at home while other household members had gone to mosque. However, the attention of neighbours and worshipers at the village mosque and its environs was drawn to the noise of a young boy who kept on shouting the suspect’s name around the village.
