Man Plotting To Bomb Mosque Nabbed In Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command yesterday took a suspected mosque bomber into custody after he was arrested by traders and residents around a mosque in Garki village, Abuja.
The unnamed suspect was detained after some bystanders allegedly heard him speaking on the mobile phone of plans to blow up the mosque, Daily Trust gathered yesterday.
He was allegedly seen scouting around the mosque which appeared odd to traders and residents of Garki village who apprehended him and took him to the local chief’s palace.
According to sources who do did not want their names in print, the suspect was first assaulted by the residents before being taken to the palace of the chief Alhaji Usman Nga Kupi.
The chief was unavailable when Daily Trust visited the palace yesterday.
However, some palace officials confirmed the incident and said the suspect has been handed over to the Police.
They explained that a decision was taken by the palace to refer all enquiries on the matter to the FCT police.
A palace guard also told Daily Trust that the suspect appeared unremorseful and after some questioning.
The guard alleged that the suspect admitted to be carrying out an assessment of the mosque before carrying out his bomb attack.
Attempt to get comments from the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command DSP Altine Daniel was unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
